Launch Spot of The Week: Elk Lake

“Experience Your City”

Elk Lake is the larger of the two conjoined lakes that make up “Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park”. This park is a local favourite for outdoor activities such as canoeing, kayaking, sailing, trail running, fishing, swimming, or just hanging out by the water.

As a regional park, these lakes are very easy to access, and have all the standard amenities. These include bathrooms, change rooms, garbage cans, picnic areas, children’s play area’s, and a large network of trails/walkways for the public to enjoy.

Paddle Time

approximately 1.5-2 hours, but can be extended by venturing into Beaver Lake as well.

Beginner – Intermediate. Calm lake conditions with the exception of windy days. More advanced paddlers can extend the paddle distance in order to receive a greater challenge.

We will meet you at “Hamsterley Beach”

Head towards Sidney on Pat Bay Hwy/ Hwy 17, past Elk Lake Dr. Turn Left at the “Petro Canada” gas station. It is located at the intersection of the highway, and “Sayward Rd.”. Immediately after, turn left on to “Hamsterley Rd.”, and then make a quick right on to “Brookleigh Rd.”. There will be an Elk Lake Sign at this intersection.

Our meeting point is the first parking lot on your left after turning on to Brookleigh Rd. You will see a large grassed area behind the parking lot, with a kids play area and picnic benches. The lake is also visible.

We will be waiting here at the parking lot with the boards!
